What is Liberté?

Many months ago I sat with my husband in a dimly lit restaurant when it came to me. My days of French class more than ten years behind me, I wasn’t sure if it was even a word.

"What about… Liberté?”

Nervous he would think it silly, nervous I made it up, I guessed at the spelling and searched the internet on my phone. Instantly the thin black letters popped up on the white screen:

Liberté (noun) feminine: Freedom, liberty

Tears sprang to my eyes. It was a feminine noun, from a Romance language. It meant freedom. It was what I was looking for.

Even then, I didn't know all of the forms this project would take in my mind (and eventually through my typing hands) beyond that it would be a study of identity and intimacy. I knew it was about women just like me and the freedom we all desire. I knew we needed more conversation, better conversation, more honest conversations around the intimacies of our lives: relationships, marriage, sex, life with God.

All of this had become captivating to me — I saw everything in my life through the lens of understanding my identity and what implications that had for everything else. I began to see the truths and lies I believed that were making the way for, or inhibiting, intimacy in all of my relationships. The more aware I became, the more hope grew inside of me. And then I was on fire: passionate for myself and for every woman to experience absolutely everything we were made for. Nothing less. Better relationships. Deeper love. Authentic friendships. Better sex. Passionate marriage. No more self-hatred when looking in the mirror.

After engaging in my own intimacy journey the last several years (and writing thousands of hidden words) Liberté is finally here. It's live. It's in infancy, but I can't wait to see how it grows. For now, this is what you can expect to find here in this space. If it speaks to you, I want to know. If it sparks your interest, sign up to receive posts directly to your inbox. Most of all: I hope you will join me.

. . .

Liberté is freedom.

It's a website, a movement, a conversation. A place where honesty, compassion, and love ignite. It is a weapon against shame, a rallying battle cry gathering women no longer captive to disappointment, cultural expectations, or fear.

It’s a peaceful liberation that springs from deep connection. It breathes self-acceptance, instills godly hope, bares all in vulnerability and bravely reaches a hand out to others, knowing that we only move forward if we do it together.

Liberté is a choice.

Let us be strong together. Let our lives be marked by abundance —  let it wreak holy havoc in every relationship, desire, and need. Let us believe in the beauty of what we were made for, plundering the depths of relationships and connection with God until we receive every promised bit.

Liberté is you: designed with a purpose, thriving in relationships, unhindered by shame, accepted and belonging.

It’s you and me, together. With God. Never alone. Readily equipped. Leaning forward with expectation and hope.

Welcome to the conversation.
